Fashion in Flanders
From avant-garde Antwerp…The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp – one of the oldest art academies in the western world – celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2013. Its prestigious Fashion Department opened its doors three hundred years after the academy was founded. To this end, the Antwerp Academy, MoMu, MAS, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp and Antwerpen Open have joined forces for a magnificent celebration: ‘Happy Birthday Dear Academie’. Have a look at the short documentary during your visit to the MAS expo on the 350th anniversary of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.

…to playful Brussels and more!
While the Antwerp style is often described as avant-garde and dark, Brussels is well known for its romantic and playful fashion. Each year the Brussels fashion institute “La Cambre” releases a new group of talented graduates into the thriving fashion scene. And many famous fashion designers have a flagship or concept store in Brussels. Brussels fashion is a microcosm bursting with creativity, where musicians, fashion designers and visual artists meet.
But the Flanders fashion experience doesn’t stop with Antwerp and Brussels. Ghent, famous for its specialised vintage shops, is perfect for that cosy shopping experience, to say nothing of the charming fashion shops of Mechelen, Leuven and Hasselt.
